And, because I am not and never have been an academic and I am years removed from a university setting, which, if any, of the following comments written on these students' papers are acceptable and considered collegial" today:

1. Sukarno's importance is reflected not so much by his gender, but by the fact that he was always photographed wearing a distinctive and very cool hat.

2. Your parents have wasted money on your laptop and your computer.

3. A street cleaner in San Francisco makes more money, on average, than a college graduate.

4. Please review Wilson's 14 points as they relate to George HW Bush's 1,000 points of light.

5. Is Ho's "coolie" hat likely a rejection of Colonial influence as opposed to Wilson's top hat?

6. Please see me after class.

7. Your point reflects a diversity in education seldom seen today. Please see me after class.

Adding, however, that the comment I write on most of the exams is, "How did you come up with this sequence of events?"

Far, far below your capabilities, Mr. Bray ... but then again, keeping a job is probably a good thing since our president tells us we are in such dire straits, and cribs are 'spensive ...

Sure, but when I try to write some feminism in her dairy, all I get is a two day cold shoulder.

In the gen chem course I TA'd (also in the UC system), we received several essays on "sugar" bonds in grading one exam.

Also, at one point, we found a recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

It is a fact that chocolate chip cookies are made from chemicals -- I'd toss 'em a few points for that.
