counterinsurgency comes home

The U.S. Army has assigned an infantry brigade to domestic operations, according to the Army Times. The first two paragraphs of the linked story are just too fucking perfect (emphasis added):
The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home

[...]

They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control...The 1st BCT’s soldiers also will learn how to use "the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded," 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier said, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them.
In case there's any doubt at all about where we've arrived.

It only makes sense. With the National Guard deployed all the time, somebody has to back fill. And using military-grade crowd control tactics and devices in a domestic situation sounds like a great idea. My only suggestion would be to use a 4 ID unit vice 3 ID because they're much closer to Waco.

But air strikes would be so much more efficient.

Yeah.

Damn! You boys gotta let me in on your group think here! You all are nodding at each other like plastic dolls with a spring attached to their heads.

I made a big-ass comment over at Cliopatria (notable only for its gaffe in not canceling the bold html), in pursuit of my doubt "about where we've arrived."

This seems a more civilized place to ask, so, tell me boys, what does this lame post tell us about "where we've arrived?"
..........

Sorry, for the delay, I just looked out my window to see if any jackbooted thugs posing as US Army soldiers in baby-shit-colored berets were advancing up my street ... none so far!

Just for shits and grins, I'm going to go clean my .357 ... reply soon before I inadvertently blow my dog away.

One Spook

Of course, if no jackbooted thugs are directly outside your window at this precise moment, there's nothing to worry about. How lazy a premise are you looking to advance, here?

Oh, come on now! I asked first! I simply wanted to know "where we've arrived" ... you "Fuck" and "Yeah" boys seem to know, and damned if I'm not in the dark!

All you have to do is let me in on your premise ... I might even respond, "Fuck" or "Yeah."

Code is so boring, not to mention intellectually dishonest.

My favorite thing about having a blog is that every dimwitted asshole with a modem thinks he has a moral right to demand that you perform for him like a dancing seal.

I was impressed by your post at Cliopatria, by the way -- you managed to make it even dumber than the bullshit you spewed here.

You'll have to forgive my presumption.

I thought perhaps your blog was a stop in the marketplace of ideas. Some of the spirited discussions I've read at Cliopatria led me to that assumption. I was incorrect in assuming that you would consider supporting your ideas.

Apparently, your blog is just a stop for lemmings for one last sip of group think just before they all jump off the cliff.

I must have made some very good points however, because when someone is unable to intelligently defend their own ideas, they predictably resort to attacking those with whom they might disagree.

How very sad.

(Making "Time Out" sign with hands)

Ok ... I've read your reply at Clio ... very well done! I knew you had it in you, and I've replied there, equally as civilized.

Perhaps we both enjoy (too much) ginning up a little "hostility."

My apologies for mine.
