the speeches

I don't buy it at all, but Obama is running, brilliantly, as Reagan: This is our moment! It's morning in America! We are called to build peace and prosperity in the greatest country in the world!

McCain is running as Ms. Winnifred P. Fussbudget, 96, who lives in the unheated garret at 604 North Cedar Lane and only owns one tattered housedress that still smells like Taffy, her long-dead colorpoint shorthair: Well, now, see, I say that this Mr. Barack Obama fellow has simply not received a sufficient number of face-to-face PowerPoint computer show briefings from that nice Mr. David Petraeus, is what I say! And his lapel pins do not inspire me to feel confidence, see, and he'd sure better not go thinking that he can steal my collection of string and used teabags! And those boys from the Lynryd Skynrd rock and roll music band, they are not well-groomed fellows at all! Druggies, is what they look like, every one of them!

If only I had the strength to tune out until December.
