The security heads in Britain didn't say, "I feel all terroristy in my colon this summer" and look what happened. If we don't complain about the state of our bowels in regards unknown terrorist planning every month or two, we could end up seeing a serious automobile fire in this country as well! I'm feeling a little jihad-induced diahrea coming on so I'm doing my part. How about you?

More panic! It's like sunscreen on a sunny day.

To be fair, I can kind of understand why Chertoff would make this kind of public statement, despite the obvious uselessness of it. I'm sure his Republican bosses have made him acutely aware of what would happen to his job if another attack occurred without warning. And they themselves are probably very worried about the political fallout of another attack occurring under their watch without the public being at least warned. The lack of another attack since 9/11 has been one of their strongest arguments for keeping the nation under Republican control and for supporting their draconian "national security" measures.

Although, he should know better than to say he has a "gut feeling" about it. Surely, he has to know the negative connotations of that phrase now, in connection with Bush.

All that being said, as always, the terrorism alert system is pure bull shit.
