drawing a line
An army lawyer involved in the Guantanamo Bay kangaroo courts has sworn out an affidavit for defense lawyers describing the Gitmo legal process as a sham: "What were purported to be specific statements of fact lacked even the most fundamental earmarks of objectively credible evidence."Add Lt. Col. Stephen Abraham to the list that includes Michael Mora, Charles Swift, James Comey, and Patrick Fitzgerald. While dumbfuck bloggers (and the scared men in clown shoes they unwaveringly support) have demonized proponents of the rule of law as shrill, far-left terrorist supporters, a long and growing line of career military officers and Republican political appointees have taken real action inside government to push back against our Pinochet-style administration.
They were obviously not alone in opposing a lawless administration, but they were the ones inside the thing. And their courage is noteworthy.

Rumor has it that the Guantanamo detentions are going the way of the Afghan campaign: it's too much trouble to see it through, so they're punting and likely to move the fight to any number of unrelated venues, thereby multiplying their troubles without solving the problem....
