nadir

Joe Lieberman -- it pains me just to type those two words -- said this week on Meet the Press that 1.) The people we're fighting in Iraq are the same people who attacked us on 9/11, and that 2.) the people we're fighting in Iraq are "supported by" a rising Islamist superstate, namely Iran. Those two things together, al-Qaeda and Iran, one supporting the other. He really, actually said this, and please do go watch the video of the sanctimonious fuck babbling like a smug fucking fool. I am now bitter, yes.

And Tim Russert completely missed the chance to ask the man if he understood that the people who attacked us on 9/11 were Sunni extremists, while Iran is a Shia state. So Joe Lieberman's argument is that Shiite extremists support Sunni extremists. Exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point. Which is exactly what events in Iraq prove to be the case, yeah? Moqtada al-Sadr is way totally into Sunni power, and treated Saddam Hussein and his buds to a soothing massage and all the Midori shooters they could drink, because they LOVE EACH OTHER.

Dear GOD, let these years be OVER.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but there's one limited case in which Joe "I want what he's smoking" Lieberman is actually right about the Sunni-Shiite crossover: Iranian support for the Sunni Hamas movement.

Otherwise, he's a loon, yeah.

I honestly don't think having a majority in the senate is worth caucusing with him, but nobody asked me....

A fair point, even though it's not the case in Iraq, and thanks for noting it.

We're really lucky that the Germans and Japanese chose defeat in WWII. Thank goodness they didn't have a Lieberman to explain that they just had to want victory and all those factors like population, industrial capacity, availability of raw materials, geography, etc. would just vanish. It's just too bad for them that they had weak leadership who simply didn't want to win.

I'm having that entire paragraph printed on t-shirts.
