what the fuck, over

I have arrived at Camp Shelby, where the main streets are named after Generals Lee, Jackson (not sure which one), and Forrest. A rare pleasure to live off a street named after a leading founder of the Klan, but welcome to Mississippi. Barracks are 36-man bays with unfinished cinderblock walls and concrete floors, which feels a great deal like I'm sharing the maintenance garage of a bus terminal with a few dozen strangers. It's sort of like where I went to basic training, except that there was a toilet in the building where I went to basic training.

Anyway, now I get to wait until August 20 for training to begin. So: Returned to active duty on June 19; begin training on August 20. Welcome to the United States Army, suckers. Hope none of you are in a hurry.

Internet access is very limited and very expensive, so I probably won't post very often. Email replies are also likely to be very slow. Feel free to send snail mail to:

Sgt. Chris Bray
Transition and Replacement Company
2490 25th Street
Camp Shelby, MS 39407

Food that contains vegetables warmly welcomed -- the dining facility here serves beef and rice, beef and rice, and beef and rice. I just figure the insurgents are in a race with the colon cancer.

More later. Hope everyone at home -- and in Beijing, if your last name is Shah -- is well.
